Drawing from the course readings on socialisation (Readings 2, 3, 4, 5 ), write an essay that discusses the above quotation by Saville-Troike, paying particular attention to how communicative competence is acquired by the child as a result of interaction processes which are specific to his/her cultural group. The aim of your essay will be to show how specific types of early-childhood interactions teach the child the appropriate verbal and non-verbal behaviours for their particular cultural group.
Focus your discussion on two or three aspects of socialization discussed in the readings
For each of the cultural groups you include in your discussion, you should show how the language used in child/caregiver interactions contributes to the child’s socialisation as a member of that community. Your discussion should also include an explanation of the implicit values, attitudes, behaviour and expectations that characterise each group.
